Barry Douglas has established a major international career since winning the Gold Medal at the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, Moscow. He is now ever in demand as both pianist and conductor and regularly performs with the world's top orchestras. This special recital features Pictures at an Exhibition as Mussorgsky originally intended, a tour de force of a work for solo piano, one which helped Barry Douglas to win the aforementioned prize - his performance having "stunned the Soviet audience"; and Beethoven's Hammerklavier Sonata, one of the most challenging works in the entire piano repertoire.
