Brecht's celebrated musical drama is set in a futuristic dystopian underworld of organised crime...
Highly visual, and reimagined for a new generation, this new co-production of Brecht's celebrated musical drama is set in a futuristic dystopian underworld of organised crime. Kurt Weill's ground-breaking score is performed live by Kokoro, the acclaimed contemporary music ensemble of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Mark Forkgen.
Set in the seedy underworld of organised crime, this production of Brecht and Weill’s ‘musical for beggars’ follows the infamous gangster Macheath as he marries Polly Peachum. On hearing this news, her angry parents - The Peachums - arrange for their new son-in-law to be arrested, but Mack is in a secret partnership with the police chief Tiger Brown. Peachum blackmails Tiger Brown with a shameful secret which forces Brown to arrest his friend Macheath and throw him in jail, where he faces being condemned to a violent and bloody death.
