Beyond the concert hall

The BSO’s award-winning Education and Community team organizes countless activities for everyone, including participatory workshops, large-scale projects, tea dances and schools concerts. Communities across the South and South West of England can get involved with all aspects of the BSO's music-making; as well as expand their knowledge of classical repertoire. BSO musicians work with youth orchestras, the elderly, school pupils, special needs groups and amateur enthusiasts.

A really successful annual project involves amateur musicians from across Dorset in our fantastic Rusty and Not So Rusty Musicians. This is now in its tenth year and since its beginning over 500 people, aged between 10 and 83, have taken part. CLICK HERE to view a short You Tube video about last year's project.

Andy Baker, the BSO Community Musician, and many of his colleagues in the BSO can be found working beyond the concert-hall on a regular basis - in community centres, village halls, hospitals, schools, day centres and youth clubs.
