The name of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is known across the world with a discography of over 300 recordings. The Litton/BSO/BSC recording of Belshazzar’s Feast was awarded a GRAMMY at the New York ceremony in February 1997 and a GRAMOPHONE Award was given for the Orchestra’s Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.2 with Peter Donohoe. In 2000 the Naxos recording of Anthony Payne’s sketches for Elgar’s Symphony No.3 with Paul Daniel was also nominated for a GRAMOPHONE Award and remained in the UK Classical Chart Top Ten for the entire year! 2002 saw further recognition with two GRAMMY nominations for a recording of American music with Jose Serebrier and Philip Quint, with further GRAMMY nominations in 2004 for the CD of music by Ned Rorem. The BSO is fast becoming one of the most frequently recorded orchestras in the UK. Recent highly acclaimed recordings include discs of Bernstein, Glass, Adams, Sibelius, Bartok and Vaughan Williams.

Please note that many of these recordings now only exist in archives. Some 100 gramophone discs of recordings by the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra between 1927 and 1949 form part of the Bournemouth Orchestra's collection of archive recordings held at the Wessex Film & Sound Archive, Hampshire Record Office, Sussex Street, Winchester SO23 8TH (01962 847742). This is a public archive; visitors welcome 9 - 5 Monday to Friday.
