Robert Harris

What do you friends call you?
Bomber.

What does everybody else call you?
Bomber.

What inspired me to play the horn?
Nothing - I wanted to play the tuba but the music teacher at secondary school gave me a horn.

Have you always wanted to play in an orchestra?
Actually, I wanted to be an engineer but the academics at Imperial College suggested that music might be a more suitable career path for me.

When did you join the BSO?
Summer 1982, seems like yesterday.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Combining work with a lifelong curiosity of real ale.

What are the challenges of playing the horn?
Trying to play and laugh simultaneously is a tremendous skill that takes dedication to master. Call me bigheaded but I think I'm quite good at it.

What piece of music do you enjoy playing most?
That's easy. The Bach B Minor Mass. It's my Desert Island favourite.

What would I do if I wasn't a musician?
Brew (not tea).
